14 days exploring Pinterest, Day #1

I just don’t get it.

Elsewhere I’ve admitted I haven’t been able to get Pinterest.

Pinterest articles in my newsfeedDespite the many enthusiastic testimonials I’ve heard and read (or at least seen headlines for in my newsreader) about the power of Pinterest to grow one’s business, I haven’t gotten it yet.

I do have a Pinterest account. I have a couple of boards. I’ve pinned a few pins (is that the right way to say it?). But I rarely visit Pinterest. And I don’t see the business-growing potential yet.

(Some may consider this an unwise confession, coming as it does from a guy whose business offers social media consulting services. But, heck, I’m just being honest.)

So I’ve decided to give it the old college try. Or junior college.

I hereby embark on a 14-day journey into Pinterest Land.

I plan spend at least 24 minutes a day exploring and/or pinning to Pinterest. And I plan to post a daily update documenting my findings and my evolution as a Pinner (is that the right way to say it?).

My goal? Even if Pinterest isn’t destined to be an important social property for me and my own company, it might be for my customers. I owe it to them to know more about Pinterest than what I can read on Wikipedia.

Please join the conversation.

Please don’t hesitate to join the conversation (comment below) if you have something to offer. Maybe you have a story to tell about how Pinterest has helped your business. Maybe you can recommend boards I should follow. Maybe you have questions I can seek answers to in the course of my journey.

Jeff, thanks for this research on Pinterest. I was told by a 20 something that it was “this amazing new thing on the web” and that I would “love it”. I went there once and thought it was useless. It seems to be random postings of photos and comments about things people like. It was worse than Facebook in terms of meaningful content.
Unless I read something different from you (and I do value your opinions and read your stuff because you do not waste my time), I won’t be back there.
    Regards,

      Thanks for the confidence, A.
I should think your business – Maison d’Etre – is one that could benefit from an effective Pinterest presence. That’s just a hunch. I’ll keep the idea in mind as I continue my experiment.
